Today we have been concentrating on Shuffled Sentences.
Over the last 3 years of CEM testing in our area, we have consistently found that our students initially hate and struggle with these question types but with plenty of practice, the vast majority find them easy and some even enjoy them!
We have tried to encourage children to tackle them as follows:
Look for pairs of adjectives/verbs/adverbs or nouns and the answer is probably in there somewhere. Try to pull out two words that just look like they can’t belong in a sentence together.
Unless of course, you’re unlucky enough to come up against the following:
explorers found maps the themselves intrepid lost hopelessly
Answer: maps
the intrepid explorers found themselves hopelessly lost.
