We had a session on emphasising the need to guess and move on if a maths problem is simply taking too long. We believe that the tactic should be to go back if there is any time left at the end of the section.
To illustrate this, the children completed two short maths test consisting of 15 questions each. In the first test we made the first 3 questions challenging and time consuming:
And in the second test, we put the more difficult questions as numbers 13, 14 and 15:
All the children achieved a higher score on the second paper!
