Aah – Comprehension!
Almost all of the children absolutely hate comprehensions!
Probably because at school, they are made to answer the questions in the following way:
‘Why does Mr. Williams have to leave his house so early in the morning?
‘Mr. Williams has to leave his house so early in the morning because……………………………………………………………………………………………’
At least the children aren’t up against this type of comprehension format as they will encounter only multiple choice questions in the 11+ transfer test
However, we are constantly looking for ways to make comprehension activities more absorbing and interesting for our students. Good comprehension skills will also help with the worded maths problems that the children are likely to encounter.
But the challenge of how to make comprehension work fun and interesting still remains!
